Local studies federations across Ireland have teamed up for a joint visit to the historic Bristol and Bath areas.
Members of the Federation of Local History Societies and the Federation for Ulster Local Studies travelled across to the south-west of England for this trip.
The group was made up of members from twelve counties – Dublin, Armagh, Down, Derry, Antrim, Waterford, Meath, Tipperary, Cork, Galway, Kildare and Roscommon.
There were members from 24 historical societies together with two
individual members.
Amongst the places visited on the five-day trip were Bristol, Bath, Wells, Glastonbury and the Mendip Hills.
Members enjoyed a wide range of historical activities and visits including the Avon Valley, Royal Crescent, Roman baths, Brunel’s famous Clifton Suspension Bridge, Cheddar Gorge and much, much more.
A range of other activities kept the group entertained and educated, including an evening with Ele and Jezz Palmer from the History Press Publications who gave members “a most interesting and entertaining presentation on history publishing especially self-publishing”.
You can read about the full trip, and see lots of photos of their experiences, in this pdf.
