Edmund Rice Schools Trust

Dr Éamon Phoenix was a trustee of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust in Northern Ireland.

Founded in 2009, Edmund Rice Schools Trust (NI) Ltd is the trustee body responsible for eight schools in Belfast, Glengormley, Armagh, Newry and Omagh.

These schools were formerly under the trusteeship of the Christian Brothers. The Trust was launched in February 2009 and is based in the Westcourt Centre, 08 – 30 Barrack St., Belfast.

Éamon attended one of the schools, St Mary’s Christian Brothers Grammar School, leaving in 1971 before returning to the school teach history in the early 1980’s.

Éamon’s last visit to the school was back in 2011 when he led an historical talk on The Civil Rights Movement and the period 1968 -1971

As well as being a trustee of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust for 12 years, Dr Phoenix was also chairperson of the company from 2009 to 2015.

St Mary’s CBGS paid tribute to Éamon after his death, recalling that in 2021 he had attended the Hogan/O’Keefe 50th anniversary golden jubilee reunion “where he spent the afternoon regaling his peers with stories and anecdotes from happy times he spent in Barrack Street and Glen Road”.
